Monika Lenczewska is a cinematographer based in the US and Europe, named by Variety as one of the “Top 10 Cinematographers to Watch” in 2016. Monika was a cinematographer on CITY OF LIES, a film directed by Brad Furman starring Johnny Depp and Forest Whitaker and the FX series TRUST based around the J. Paul Getty III kidnapping of 1973, written by Simon Beaufoy and executive-produced by Danny Boyle.
Prior to that, Monika worked on the Icelandic feature UNDER THE TREE, directed by Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurðsson, which premiered at the 2017 Venice Festival and TIFF and for which she was awarded the 2018 Dublin Film Critics Award for Best Cinematography.
In 2016, Monika had two features premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival: neo-noir thriller MESSAGE FROM THE KING, directed by Fabrice Du Welz starring Chadwick Boseman and Luke Evans, and Sofia Exarchou’s powerful Greek film PARK, developed out of the Sundance Lab.
Monika had the rare honor to premiere two films simultaneously at the Sundance Film Festival (2014): IMPERIAL DREAMS, directed by Malik Vitthal starring John Boyega, and DIFRET, a film tackling the Ethiopian tradition of female abduction into marriage, directed by Zeresenay Mehari and executive-produced by Angelina Jolie. She received Best Cinematography nominations at both Sundance and the honorable Camerimage Film Festival for DIFRET.
For her commercial work Monika was the first female cinematographer to be awarded The Creative Circle Award for Best Cinematography in Libresse #Bloodnormal campaign in 2018. The same campaign also won 4 awards at The British Arrows 2018 including Best Commercial of the Year.
